Volunteer Engagement Tiers

The Group has established four tiers of volunteer involvement to enhance our support structure. Please evaluate which tier aligns best with your availability and how you can contribute most effectively to enrich the Group’s adventurous experiences for your child.

Parent Involvement

We understand that as a parent, you are ready to engage in volunteering activities to aid your child’s participation in certain events, such as Remembrance Day and St George’s Day. As a parent, you’re an automatic member of the Group Scout Council, granting you voting rights at the Annual General Meeting. Additionally, you might be willing to assist in our fundraising efforts by supporting your child in filling out sponsorship forms or even organizing a fundraising event yourself.

Adult Helper

Adult Helpers offer more regular assistance compared to Parents. Their involvement might include participating in occasional evening events or organizing day activities during weekends. The primary requirement for this role is enthusiasm. We continuously encourage Parents to increase their involvement, and becoming an Adult Helper is a natural progression for those looking to do so.

Occasional Helper / Group Support / Executive Role

In this tier, an adult demonstrates a consistent and regular commitment to assisting. You may take on a specific function like being an Occasional Helper for a particular section, managing the Group Newsletter, or serving on the Executive Committee. This level involves more formal procedures, including a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check, and may require joining the Scout Association.
Vacant roles on the Exec committee are usually filled by vote at the AGM.

Section Assistant / Assistant Leader / Leader Role

In this highest level of volunteering, your dedication is both evident and steadfast. Taking on a role as a Section Assistant, Assistant Leader, or Leader is an incredibly rewarding experience. In these positions, you become an official member of the Scout Association and undergo formal training in various aspects of Scouting, including its activities and methodologies.
